EMOTIONAL WELLNESS Part I

How To Obtain and Maintain Emotional Wellness

Stress is the body's reaction to something that exceeds its resources. When we perceive something as being harmful, our brain triggers stress hormones into your system. In large amounts they create toxins and slow down essential detoxification enzymes in the liver, which is of utmost importance as the liver is primarily responsible for your overall health. Whether you read this brief summary of Emotional Wellness or click on the link to read it in its entirety (http://www.oasisshopper.com/emotional-wellness1.html), following these simple tips, starts your journey of Emotional Wellness.

Are you ready?

1. Don't let the energy vampires suck you dry! The Drama Queen, the Sad Sister, the Gift of Gabber, and the Blamer. Any of them can wear you down.

2. Not enough sleep makes you weak!

3.  Hide! Solitude can be healthy.

4. Get your body moving! Exercise lifts mood and enhances quality of life.

5. Be prepared! It's smart to anticipate and plan for how you'll handle a given obstacle. However, when you visualize a negative outcome, you may operate in a way that supports the result you most want to avoid. Here is an example of a simple solution to a potential problem. If you think you may have to get up in the middle of the night, will you fret about possibly tripping over things in the dark, or will you turn on a night light?

4 Easy Ways To Look Younger

May 31st, 2011 • Posted by Juanita Gilmore Walton • Permalink

These techniques are easy, inexpensive and satisfying. They are not always instant, but they are good for you and your body. When we talk about aging we think of wrinkled and sagging skin, wrinkles around the mouth and crows feet around the eyes. Regardless of your age there are proven ways to tone facial skin and soften wrinkled skin.

  1. The most common sense solutions are to avoid sun and to avoid a drying diet. Smoking and its nicotine are very hard on the skin also.
  2. Drinking Caffeine; coffee, teas (green tea is an exception,) cola drinks, and alcohol in excess is very hard on the skin. Low water intake can cause premature aging of the skin. Simple dietary changes that you can make now and maintain through your lifetime will help your skin keep it’s youthful beauty and help you to repair what already has occurred to your skin. Check in with your local professional spa or health food store.
  3. The sag and slack of your skin is commonly due to lack of muscle tone. It is not unusual for people to take years off appearance through regular exercise. You must be sure to get medical clearance and advice from your doctor before starting. A good trainer who is experienced with people of your age, health, and body type can be of great help. You can locate these people at a gym to help you get started on a supervised toning program. Swimming is a tough call because of the drying that is caused by chlorine in the pool. Yoga is excellent if taught by an experienced professional. Once again, find an instructor who is experienced.
  4. Using a small amount of lotion rubbing in a circular motion with two or three fingers is a common way to bring circulation to the skin and to improve your skins elasticity. Don’t overdo it. It takes time. Be patient. Start using soft pressure and gradually over days and weeks you can become more vigorous. Don’t irritate your skin. You can do this in front of the TV for a short time every day. These techniques are easy, inexpensive and satisfying. They are not always instant, but they are good for you and your body.

CELLULITE MYTHS EXPOSED

December 9th, 2010 • Posted by Juanita Gilmore Walton • Permalink

I read an interesting article from one of my favorite sources that confirmed my thoughts and concerns about the bumpy, cottage cheese looking fat on our butt, stomach and thighs called cellulite. Now, I don’t knock expensive creams, body wraps and machines that claim they remove cellulite, (we have previously offered these services;) however, please know that a healthy, more effective way to diminish these imperfections is your participation in minimizing the look, which in turn will bring you an improved and healthier lifestyle in days and years to come.

• Remember that cellulite is fat, so losing weight can help minimize cellulite. Once fat deposits have emptied from their reservoirs, toning up will help tighten the skin and muscles, improving saggy skin and minimizing the look of dimples and lumps.

• Poor circulation also encourages cellulite. Sitting is one of the number one reasons that cellulite develops. To increase circulation, move around more and treat yourself to a daily walk. Please note that Massage Therapy also helps to increase circulation.

• It is important to increase your water in take. Why, because, drinking water helps flush out toxins.

So, get fit to help control and tone your body. You deserve it and getting fit helps with the battle of the bulgy lumps called cellulite. See you this summer healthier and perhaps a little more exposed.
